Firstly - I know that according to the site that 8GB MicroSD card are 'Only compatible with N95 .... etc' however I was wondering about something

When I had my last phone (6230) although it stated that only 1Gb [Maximum] cards could be used (according to Nokia) - if you happen to put a larger card in (eg 2Gb), although the phone did not recognize the size of the card correctly (depending upon firmware version), it could still 'read/write' to it

[Forum link is http://forums.mobymemory.com/Topic1813-13-1.aspx - just before the 2nd photo]

I was wondering - can the same be done with a 6300 ?? - as in put a larger memory card in than the maximum stated by Nokia (2Gb I believe), yet still be able to access it & play music etc, since I've noticed under the 6300 memory card web page [http://www.mobymemory.com/phone-memory/Nokia/6300-memory-cards.asp] you do show 8Gb memory card bundles which is puzzling if the 6300 CANNOT access larger than 2Gb cards.

Thanx in advance for any replies

hi kermit.

I know what u mean on the 6230, the error was more on display of memory size , rather than the actual handling of the larger capacities in terms of READ/WRITE.

Im afraid for the Nokia 6300 compatibility is not there for microSDHC memory cards, which all over 2GB are part of the new standard, so you are fixed to a max capacity of 2GB microSD in the 6300 at any one time.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks for the quick reply - I'm glad that's cleared up.

However I think it's a little misleading that the higher memory cards are offered under the 6300 webpage, as someone could easily mistake the fact that the 6300 could handle the higher cards (despite the warning message of 'for n95... only') - they may also think along the lines like I did & go & buy it only to find it doesn't work.
