Corrupted 2GB MMC...

Right, so I've just gotten a 2GB MMC. I put it in my N-Gage QD and try to format it, it comes up with a system error. I put it in my PC and it says it needs to be formatted, so I format it. I put it back in my N-Gage QD and whenever I try to bring up the menu (or do ANYTHING) it comes up with "Memory card corrupted" so I can't at all attempt to format it using my N-Gage QD anymore.

Any help? I'm beginning to think this particular MMC just doesn't work with the N-Gage QD (despite the seller claiming it does) and I don't have anything else to test the MMC with (but it does work in my PC.)

Hi,

I am having a lot of problems with putting music on my new M2 card.

On my pc, the disc music management software (SE Disc2Phone) had no problems with 4GB or 2GB Micro SD cards, and neither did my 'phone.

Is there some problem associated with these new cards?

Is it possible to return it for checking even though I no longer have the Sandisk Packaging?

worked seemingly well (viewty full of flaws) untill now

now my phone wont recognise it.

using the micro-mini adapter, my old nokia n80 says "card corrupt"

my printer says memory card error

and if i use the micro - sd, my pc just hangs on the my pc screen if i try and access it.

my pc has a 6in1 card reader built in

is there any way of retrieveing wt was on it before the mess up?

HOWTO: Repair a Corrupted MobyMemory Card

Correct Treatment of your MobyMemory Card:

Physically, memory cards are quite fragile pieces of high technology, susceptible to damage from various silly things like excessive heat, condensation, strong magnetic fields, physical damage from rough handling and/or bending! (similar to most electronic devices then..)

Given the natue of mobile memory card products, they are constantly being taken in and out of some form of interface with a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, or desktop PC, or a separate memory card reader. The number of different devices they have to be able to interact with is in the thousands.

It is not too surprisingly, then that sometimes the state of the file system on the memory card can get damaged.

This may happen for a number of different reasons, including:

removing the card from a device whilst an application is trying to read/write to it.. (Just be patient...)
battery drain on a device whilst in use meaning an insufficent voltage failure whilst writing to the card.
a poor implementation of the MMC standard on the device using the card
poor connectivity software drivers on the device or the Windows PC/Mac
physical damage like card or device being dropped, bent, getting wet etc...
lots of others i am sure..

As often as not, the problem is not terminal for your memory card, but just a software issue ( or in physical terms, it could be called "a temporary disalignment of the all the bits and bytes on the card").

The fix for this problem is the same as for any other file storage device (like a floppy or hard drive) with corrupt or invalid file system, namely; re-format the file system.

Re-Formatting your MobyMemory MMC Card:

It is possible that your mobile will offer you the option of formatting the memory card if it is found to be invalid. (However, the likes of Nokia nGage, Nokia 6600, and Siemens Sx1 often just prefer to reject the media as corrupted).

In that case, to format the card, you will need access to one or more of the following:

A Windows PC or Mac.
A separate multi-format memory card reader (verify that it is compatible with the MultiMediaCard -MMC- standard).
(This can come in USB or PCMCIA flavours. If USB, try and ensutre it is a USB2 device.
Alternatively, many of the newest laptop and desktop PCs now come with integrated Multi-format memory card readers.

If you are using a separate memory card reader, then connect it up to your PC, and let windows recgnize the device through plug-and-play.

Now you can insert your MobyMemory card into the appropriate slot in the memory card reader. (Please note that because the MMC card is pretty much symmetrical it is very easy to insert it upside-down in the slot).

Open up [Windows Explorer] (or the equivalent for MAC users..sorry not well-versed in OS X).

There should be at least one icon visible for a [Removable Drive] in the list of available drives. (in fact, there is often a list of about 5 or 6 Removable drives, one for each of the different Memory card formats that your reader is compatible with).

Find the drive that is mapped to the MMC card by clicking on each in turn until it confirms there is a drive present. (Sometimes it is easiest to do this by trying a fully-functional MMC card in the MMC slot first so you can confirm which drive letter it is.)

(NB. It will always be labelled as a [Removable Drive], don't mistake it for one of your PC hard drives like [C:] drive, as that could be catastrophic later on!)

At this stage it may give an error message saying that the drive is unreadable.

By right-clicking on the drive letter, it will provide the option of formatting the drive.

Select format the drive, and the [Format Drive] dialog will appear (Double-check again to make sure it not your [C:] drive!).

There is only one setting to focus on in this page, and that is to ensure that the FileSystem selected for formatting is the [FAT] option (not FAT32, or NTFS or any other option)

(Note: All mobile phones, to my knowledge, and most cameras (etc..) use the FAT file system (or at least are compatible with it) on their memory card media.)

Now click on Format Now ( ensure [Quick Format] is not selected as this will not actually restore the file system space byte by byte, but only resets the header information so the drive thinks its empty again. This may not be enought to solve your corruption problem.)

The PC will now - hopefully!- chug away happily until it has restored the memory card space back to its original configuration (of course, any information on there is long gone by now!).

If you recieve an error message back from the [Format Now] request, then you can try anoither way to format your card, from the command line.

Formatting from the Command line:

Select Start-Run and Type: CMD

A Command window will appear (With the old-style DOS prompt).

And now you can type: FORMAT i: /FS:FAT (where i: is the drive letter for your memory card)

NB. (Remember again to not format your C: drive !!)

Sometimes a format at the DOS prompt will work where the Explorer format fails.

If your problem still persists, the damage to your may be more permanent, and not just a software issue. In this case, it may still respond to a format request in a different memory card reader or device.

If you believe it to be a failure of manufacture, then the warranty on the card offers the prospect of a replacement card, subject to a confirmation of the fault upon return of the goods.

Having said all that, if care is taken with your MobyMemory card, noting the points above, then it should serve you well for many years without a problem...

Unreadable SanDisk 2gb MiniSD?

I bought a SanDisk 2GB MiniSD from MobyMemory back in Feb last year, and it has been working great in my windows mobile device.

However yesterday when I turned on the device, it reported that no storage card was present.

I have since tried to read the card in 2 different pc's via internal and usb card readers. On both pc's, windows explorer just hangs when trying to access the card, and the only way to get out of this is to eject the card. Previously the card has worked fine in both of these pc's.

Even my digital camera reports that the card is unreadable. Therefore, since I cannot get any device to recognise the card, I cannot even try re-formatting it.

Is there anything else I can try? Surely these cards should not pack up after less than a year's use.

Just received a new 2GB card for J600 but when I try to access the card through the phone menus it gives me the error message "Unable to add default folder. Root directory is full". I can't find an option in the phone to format the memory card. I can access the memory card with my pc via the phone's USB cable. Any ideas?

I have a mobymemory 2GB mini-SD card which worked for a couple of days in my Nokia N73 during which time I transfered music.

Then my nokia said that the card needed to be formatted. Which I allowed the phone to do. Since then my phone doesn't recognise that the memory card is in the phone.

I then purchased a mini card reader which arrived this morning from MobyMemory.

My pc recognises the card reader but can't find the memory card inside.

I have tried the instructions listed via the pc but the card may as well not be there as the pc is not finding it at all.

I have emailed for a refund but just thought I would try the forum in case I have missed something.

The card works fine in a number of devices, and both drives of the USB reader are seen by my laptop.

However, I can't see the card itself.

I recently got a Transflash 256mb card from this site. I have a card reader built into the pc and things worked well for a while. now the pc wont let me write to the card because it tells me that the card is write protected all the time. I know about the switch on the side of the sd adaptor and that is in the right place. The phone i am using is the moto c975, does anyone know about it write protecting cards when it is turned off?!?

I have bought a 2gb mini-sd card last week.
it was working fine till I had to copy some files on it from my laptop (which has an inbuild sd card reader).
when I tried to view the card using it,it said it is an unformatted card and asked me to format the card. so I did on fat fs. then I could copy all the files I required. then when I tried to view the card on my mobile [mda vario] it never recognized the card. it says not installed.
another thing I noticed is that when I view the size of the card on my laptop it shows 968 mb. but, I have a 2gb card. why the difference??

Passworded MMC - a real solution at last!

Last year I posted a topic in this forum explaining how I had set a password on my Moby Memory 1Gb MMC in my Nokia 6230. I thought that the password could be reset by formatting in a card reader, but this turned out to not be the case. The password is part of the MMC spec and, if forgotten, can only be cleared by issuing a so-called "forced erase" sequence to the card in a suitable card reader (a mass storage reader, which makes the card into a drive on your computer, is not suitable). Well now I've finally solved the problem. Between posting that message last year, and now, someone has developed a small, standalone card reader whose sole purpose is to issue the forced erase sequence to any MMC which is inserted. You insert a passworded MMC, wait 3 seconds until the LED flashes quickly, and then remove the MMC. The card is now free from a password and has had all its data wiped (when you issue a forced erase the data areas are cleared as well as the password register). You then simply insert the card into your phone (or normal card reader), format it and it's back to normal.

I bought mine from the URL below, but they are popping up on ebay and other places, in a couple of different designs. The device has a USB connector which is solely used for power, and comes with a 9V battery clip so it can be used without any PC at all if you prefer.

Would MobyMemory consider buying these in? Locked MMCs crop up here quite a lot and I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes. On that note, if anyone is stuck with a passworded MMC I'll be happy to clear it for you if you pay the return postage. You would need to accept that all the data is lost, that I cannot be responsible for broken cards which cannot be reset, and that all the risks are yours. Basically I'm offering to do people a genuine favour if they're stuck, at least until Moby Memory launch a recovery service of their own!

I needed to use my mini sd card to put a large file on, so i copied all the data on the card onto my pc using my built in memory card reader.

I then found that i could not just delete the files from the memory card on the pc, for some strange reason, and so i just formatted the memory.

Ever since i have done this, everytime i try to put a file into my memory card from my computer it says that the file is write protected, and i do not see any reason why it should be - i cannot find any options to change this, and it is really annoying me, cos now i have a blank card, and 700mb of data to put on it.

although i can put files onto it on my phone, just not on my pc.......

I just bought a 2GB MicroSD card for my Samsung D900 and once i inserted it, the phone kind of recognises it but when i try to access it, at first it asked to format it and when i clicked yes, it came up with 'error'. but now all it says is 'initialising' but won't access the card. in the memory status, it says 0kb available and i can't see the card in the samsung pc studio..

any ideas what i need to do or am missing?

Unable to Format 2GB MiniSD Card

I am using a MiniSD card on my MDA Vario.

My card became unreadable after I reset my phone. I was hoping it was temporary. but found it did not recover.

Now, I am trying to format it using cmd prompt. but, it gives me 'device is busy' message.

C:\Documents and Settings\aaa>format i: /FS:FAT
Insert new disk for drive I:
and press ENTER when ready...
The device is busy.

I even tried to format using the HP USB Disk Storage Tool V2.0.6 which i have used previously. It gives giving me message that the device media is write-protected even though it is not.

Please advise as I have tried almost everything.

Official HOWTO: Check the Condition of your MobyMemory Card

IF you are unsure about the condition of your memory cards, the best way to check if it is OK is to use the disk utilities that are present on your PC, either in Windows or at the DOS prompt.

From Windows Explorer:

From Windows you can check the memory using the Error Checking utility available for any drive connected to the system.

To access, connect your Memory card to the PC with a memory card reader. (Remember to insert the memory card into the reader before connecting the reader to the machine.).

The memory card should appear in Windows Explorer, as a new drive letter, and with the label [Removable Drive] next to it.

Right-click on the drive icon for the memory card, and select [Properties] from the options listed.

When the Properties dialog appears, tab across to the Tools tab, and the first option listed will be Error-Checking.

Click the [Check Now..] button and the memory card will be scanned for errors.

Hopefully this operation will report back that you have no errors on your card.

From DOS Prompt:

Open a DOS Prompt (or Cmd Window) from the Startup menu.

At the prompt, type the Drive letter of your memory card followed by colon and enter:

C:> ChkDsk <drive_letter>:

The Chkdsk utility will then run, and report back its findings.

If there are any problems reported then the memory card should be formatted:

at the command prompt, this can be achieved by typing:

C:> format i: /FS:FAT

(this will re-format the drive i: (my memory card), to the FAT file system).

This should fix any problems with the card.

USB2 MS PRO Duo Reader

Please can anyone suggest why my Laptop running on XP Professional SP2 cannot recognise the memory card inserted into the reader I have bought today. I also bought 2 x miniSD cards and readers and they are ok. Everytime I insert to PRO Duo reader it comes up with a message saying insert disk into Drive E: even through the card reader is in the usb port. If I go to explore the laptop recognises that the reader has been inserted but if I try to open it to see what is on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

On contacting Moby Memory they suggested that I reformat the mini memory in FAT 32 ( FAT only allows you to read 2gb). After the format every thing went smoothly. RSM could not load media in drive

Hi, I purchased 2 x 4Gb MMC+ cards from you last week. They arrived today.

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to access the cards to load data onto them.

In that time I have tried:

Your website for guidance
Microsoft’s website for guidance
Other forums on the internet
Accessing the cards on a Dell D410 and on a HP nc6220, both running XP – the Dell can see the card but comes up with “RSM could not load media in drive %1 of library %2.” And the HP can’t see the card at all.
Accessing the cards on 3 different Nokia phones (9300i, 9500, 6230) – cannot do anything with the cards
Accessing the cards on a Casio Z850 camera – the Camera can format, read and write the cards – but only for use on the Camera.

I have tried using 2 other MMC and MMC+ cards in both of the laptops and in all 3 phones and the camera – these work fine in all 6 devices which means that the problem must lie with the new cards.

Any last ideas before I ask for a return and refund?

I have a Nokia 3230 with standard 32mb multimedia card.

I have loads of pictures of my baby nephew just after he was born and my dogs when they were puppies. Obviously, being a girl, I didn't think I'd need to back anything up.

Now my phone is telling me that my memory card is 'corrupted' . Either that or it tells me that there is 'no memory card inserted'.

Is there any any way that I can get the stuff back off of it? I wouldn't mind if I couldn't and it was unimportant pics but they are really ones that I'd like to try and keep!

My new 2gb mini sd card not working

Oh well after looking around and deciding what card to get i finally chose this one, and it turned up this morning, but it is seriously shagged !!

First of all it was not even recognised in my xda mini s, so i tried it on my laptop and it seemed ok, so i copied some mp3 songs to it, but the transfer stopped half way through and caused the laptop to stop responding.

After this it would not be recnogised in any pc, various lockups and not respondings etc, so i tried it in linux and after quite some time it suddenly came back to life, so i came out of linux and back into xp and it formated fine.

So i put it in my xda mini s and for the first time it was working, i then started to install tomtom maps to the memory card, but the same thing happened, it failed while transferring files to it and become non existant again.

So even when it seems ok it will always fail again when i copy data to it, either via pc or pda. At the moment it has stopped working anyway so i can't even re-format or checkdisk it or anything.

Oh well back it goes

Sandisk memory stick pro duo not working with D750i

I bought a Sandisk memory stick pro duo 1GB for my Sony D750i. When I try to access the memory card through explorer the card is recognised as a removable drive, however it appears to be full and therefore I can't add any data. I have attempted formatting using FAT file system but the same problem occurs. When my phone is not connected to the PC the phone indicates available memory, however if I attempt to take a photo the phone display freezes and I have to turn it off. I have no issues with my previous 64MB memory card, but I would really like to use the new one. Any ideas?

Digital Cam Fell in the sea and SD Card too!

On holiday, my digital camera fell into the sea (salty sea water). I am not too concerned about the camera, which can be replaced, however I am eager to get the pictures from the SD Card (bought from Mobymemory - 1GB card).

The contacts seem to have some gunk on them which I am trying to remove with electrical contact cleaner etc.

Does anyone know of any other methods of cleaning the contacts and has anyone ever come across this before?

2gig MiniSD card problem

Hi, last month I bought a MobyMemory 2gig MiniSD card, primarily for use in my Digital Camera but also for use in my MDA Vario.

It had been working ok in the camera for the past month, although I never used it heavily, so it never got close to full. Whilst out tonight I popped the card into my phone, to clear off some of the photos and files on there and about half way through File Explorer flashed up an error (I can't recall what) and the phone then refused to recognise the card.

Fearing the worst I put the card back into the camera and it brought up the format options (the camera's way of telling me the card wasn't recognised). I tried removing and inserting the card again and this time it recognised the files, but shortly after it went back to asking me to format the disc.

When I got home I tried the card in my PC's card reader, but the access light constantly flashes, meaning Windows can't read it. I've even tried several recovery tools, but none of them can seem to access the drive whilst it's light is flashing. Occasionally Windows tries to 'autoplay' the disk, but it never gets far.

I'm not sure if my data is now gone forever, but I can't seem to do anything with the disc anymore! Any advice?! Please!

I bought 2GB miniSD for my Nokia 6280 and it was working fine. After 2 days I tried to rename the disk on my phone and gave it a password too. After five minutes the memory was not showing on my phone. I switch the phone off and on again but no results. I inserted it in my memory card reader and when i tried to open, i was told to insert the memory. Right now the card is not working or showing on the phone when inserted but the one which came with the nokia 6280 works both in the phone and the memory card reader. Any help?

Hi i just bought a 2gb SD sandisk card- the normal blue one!

i bought it because i saw that on the webpage it said that it was compatible with my SPV e100- however every time i put the card in and power up, it switches off again

- i have checked the battery and also checked with my 8mb SD and my 16mbMMC card and they work fine

- the strange thign is, is that the sandisk card also works perfectly on my computer and my camera!

Problems with Sandisk 2GB miniSD card

I'm having some problems with my 2GB miniSD card in my Nokia 6280.

Up 'til now, it has been working fine and I have been transferring music onto it fairly easily. However, I have only used 396MB of it, and I can see that it has 1540MB free, but it won't let me transfer anything else onto it.

When using Nokia Audio Manager, it lines up the tracks to transfer them, but after 1 or 2% of "Transferring", the status changes to "Cancelled".

Or if I try to use the Nokia File Manager, it simply says "The operation could not be completed".

Can anyone help? I'm fairly new to all this, so any help would be much appreciated.

problems with my 512 mmc card

hi, i have mmc 512, i put it in my card reader and after sending to it over 200 mb there is an error and i cant send anything more. when i put my card into my 6230 phone shows the card but it cant read from it. but when i put only about 200 mb there is no error and i can play mp3s on my phone.
i have win xp, i formatted (fat) my card in cmd, but it didnt help. what's wrong with this card? please help me
