Do you have any warranty for yor card? If you do, you should go back to the place where you bought it and get another one.... ?

it really helped.

You were right I had to use USB2.0 card reader to format and read the card. laptop's inbuilt one didn't help.

just one more question.

what File system is used by the manufacturer normally, fat or fat32. which is much better?

im glad you were able to solve your file system problem with a re-format, this is the most common solution to a corrupt file system (or not accessible memory) error message.

the actual capacity that any flash memory card will make available for storage will always be short of the specified capacity; right across every memory card and all PC hard drives, for that matter. It is to do with with how the manufacturers specify bytes in a kilobyte (binary or decimal) and how the chosen file system (FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc) allocates space, and a (small) amount of space it consumes for its own control purposes.

ps. watch out when using built-in card readers, which are often not able to handle the larger capacity memory cards, like 2GB and 4GB capacities. If unsure, stick to a recent USB2 card reader like those in our range order readers.

I solved the problem by formatting the catd using "HP USB disk storage format tool".after I could view the card on my pc and also my mobile.

But, the size is still low 1939 mb [1.89 gb approx.]. why is it showing less approx. 100 mb.

please advice.

I have bought a 2gb mini-sd card last week.
it was working fine till I had to copy some files on it from my laptop (which has an inbuild sd card reader).
when I tried to view the card using it,it said it is an unformatted card and asked me to format the card. so I did on fat fs. then I could copy all the files I required. then when I tried to view the card on my mobile [mda vario] it never recognized the card. it says not installed.
another thing I noticed is that when I view the size of the card on my laptop it shows 968 mb. but, I have a 2gb card. why the difference??

pls help / advice .
