(can anyone confirm if the problem is fixed in the Sony Ericsson W900i series ? )..

For capacities of 1GB and over, USB2 card readers are really an essential item anyway, because they are many times faster than the USB phone cable for transferring your music, video, games etc, and can be used to safely re-format cards, and can be used as a flash stick for carrying data between mulitple PCs as well as mobile phones and PSP machines..

Cheers

WebSite Access - Essential Sever Maintenance

Note to MobyMemory Visitors:
=========================

During a period between 9pm-12pm on 29th November, our website was inaccessible due to essential server maintenance.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but are happy to confirm that all systems are fully operational again,
in preparation for what is likely to be a very a busy month, with the run up to another Xmas.

Yours sincerely,

Launch of the MobyMemory MMCplus Multimediacard range (128MB to 1GB)

MobyMemory MMCplus memory now available for the Nokia mobiles and other SD / MMC Phones:

For those interested, we have now launched our new range of MMCplus memory cards, which we certify as compatible with Nokia mobile phones with MMC slots, including Nokia 6230i, and others like the Nokia 9300 and Nokia 9500, and of course the venerable Nokia 6230, nGage, 6600 etc.

They are made from Samsung original memory chipsets, with SLC - single layer construction, and are fully compliant to the MMCA 4.1 specification for MMCplus multimediacard memory cards.

Available in sizes from 256MB up to 1GB currently.

What do you get with MobyMemory MMCplus that is different to MMC ?

The real-life transfer speeds possible with these cards when combined with a MMCA 4.1 specification Card reader is 10-12MB per sec write speed, which is pretty awesome. This represents about 5x improvement over standard MMC (v3.1 specification) cards. To put in context, that means filling your 1GB MMCplus card with your music, video and games in about 2minutes..!

Remember you need the very latest USB2 card reader for this performance. Fortunately, we have an excellent model available which is discounted when you buy one of our MMCplus cards (see 17-in-1 reader option at £7.99 in following link).

These cards represent probably the best-value super high speed performance memory cards available today, with the broadest compatibility, from SD device phones, and PDAs, and digital cameras, as well as with Nokia mobile phones like the Nokia 6230i. (of course our MMCmobile range offer slightly wider compatibility, down to Nokia RSMMC devices as well, but at slightly higher cost )

NB. Please note that not many devices will utilise the wider bandwith (13-pin) of the v4.1 specification yet, and so the full speed advantages become apparent when partnered with 4.1 specification devices like our new v4.1 specification 17-in-1 reader.

We will be re-jigging the main shopping website this weekend to put more emphasis on the MMCplus range as we know they are going to be very popular, but in the meantime, please follow this link:

1GB, 512MB and 256MB MMCplus multimediacard memory cards for Nokia MMC mobile phones like the Nokia 6230i, Nokia 9500, Nokia 9300, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6600..

Yours sincerely,

Disruption to Postal service - 7th July 2005.

Dear MobyMemory Customers,

Please note that we have been warned by the Royal Mail that deliveries will be affected overnight, and to allow an extra day for delivery (for next-day deliveries).

This is because of the bombings here in London, UK, and the disruptions to the transport and rail services in and around the capital.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this causes customers who ordered today ( 7th July 2005 ), especially those hoping for a delivery before the weekend.

I am sure you are understanding of the reasons for this, and join with us in passing on our best wishes to anyone out there more personally impacted by the bombings.

Yours sincerely,

Moby Memory Team

London, UK.

Price Cuts on 1GB mini-SD and 1GB RS-MMC memory

The price of the top of the range MobyMemory 1GB mini-SD memory cards, and 1GB RS-MMC memory cards have both been dropped today:

1GB mini-SD memory card - £79.99 inc VAT

1GB RS-MMC memory card - £79.99 inc VAT.

Currently we are carrying good stock in both cards, but please note, recent history suggests that they will be shift very quickly.

Remember with memory cards this big, you are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to buy a USB2 card reader from us to ensure compatibility and to offer the fastest transfer mechanism to/from your card to PC. (Many embedded card readers in laptops, dekstops, and printer cannot handle this size of memory card)

Consider USB Bluetooth option for wireless sybncing convenience, but USB2 card reader for card management/repair, and best bulk copy performance.

Yours sincerely,

Bluetooth file transfer

Hi cansomeone help me with this file transffer problem.when i try to transfer a file to an other B Tooth mob as an image it doesit no prob. but when i try to transfer a ring tone in midi form or music file the message i get is <unable to send protected objects. send unprotected objects only.

help me please if someone can

BUY A COMPATIBLE CARD READER WITH YOUR MEMORY CARD

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT:

Dear Customers,

Many of you out there will own a laptop, a desktop, or indeed a printer, or other device that may now come with a built-in card reader for SD , MMC, MS, or other memory card formats.

Well i am afraid to tell you that even though you may have popped down to Dixons, or Currys this afternoon to buy the machine, there is absolutely no guarantee that the card reader will be able to handle the most recent memory cards that we stock, at the larger capacities.

By larger capacity, i mean MMC, SD, mini-SD, RS-MMC, and MS PRO DUO memory in capacities above 256MB...

This is because many of these embedded devices use older (and often cheaper) chipsets in them (dating from 1yr or 2yrs ago), which have never been designed or tested with memory cards like 1GB MobyMemory mini-SD, or our 2GB MMC, which only got released in the last month. It is understandable when you think about it.

When people try the cards in older readers, they invariably come crying and complaining to us claiming to have been sold a duff memory card, often after corrupting the card themselves by trying to use and format in one of these non-compatible readers.

To save everyone a lot of hassle, in emails, secondary purchases of card readers (which is very common), and returns for us to re-format and re-send out...

PLEASE BUY A COMPATIBLE USB2 CARD READER FROM US WHEN YOU BUY OUR BIGGER MEMORY CARDS, OR MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPATIBLE MEMORY CARD READER.

We do try and encourage people to buy a reader with their cards, especially as the price is discounted that way too. So please take this recommendation seriously. Modern card readers like ours offer many times faster transfers to your memory card than bluetooth, or the USB cable supplied with your mobile phone.

It will save a lot of questions and frustrations later for you, and for us too

Yours sincerely,

Moby Memory Team (and from Support Team especially )

Nokia 6630 Owners - Our RS DV MMC memory now available

To all Nokia 6630 Owners:

Out stock of 128MB RS DV MMC has finally arrived...

128MB RS DV Dual voltage MMC Memory from MobyMemory.com

These are 128MB RS Dual Voltage MMC cards, and will work well with your Nokia 6630. It can only be a good thing for the industry.

Questions that do spring to mind from the sale of pre-loaded music memory cards are:

Is it risky to have your prime (and only copy) of a purchased album stored on a memory card (which is erasable format in non-SD form) ?

Will purchasers be able to copy/backup the album material to another medium (like their PC or burn to CD) for safekeeping ?

Does £30 represent good value for what is probably a 128mb + legitimate copy of Robbie's latest album.?

Is it better to have a whole stack of small (128mb or less) memory cards with 1 album each or one or two big memory cards with a whole bunch of your albums stored on them which you have ripped from your CD collection..?

Personally, I still feel that the non-erasable and proven durability of CD format is a handy and secure backup for any music that you then convert (rip) for playback on on your mobile memory device (or digital music player for that matter).

But for those consumers who are, very lazy or tech-illiterate (and don't want to rip their own songs from CD), and don;t mind risking the loss of their album if it gets corrupted (which does happen with solid state memory) then this might prove to be a popular format for driving future music sales.

Let us hear your thoughts..

Want to write a HOWTO Guide for our forum?

Calling all would be authors out there.!

We are looking for smartphone enthusiasts to author HOWTO guides for our forums.

Your HOWTO guide should deal with an aspect of your mobile phone in use with music, video, games or another application which requires you to use, and get the most out of, your MobyMemory card. The areas that we think will be most useful are for music and video conversion for specific mobiles. If there are things that are complicated to install or setup with your mobile and your home computer, that will be a good topic. Also, MAC owners out there have no guides on HOWTO setup their software; that would be great for them.

We will reward well-produced and useful HOWTO guides with items from our product range. And of course, you will keep the credit on the guide. Some will not work at all, and others will not offer a reliable performance.

This makes the decision of which memory card to go for very difficult for the consumer. Not only do you have to find the right memory type (MMC/SD/RS-MMC/DV-RS-MMC/MMCMobile/SD/mini-SD/microSD/Transflash/Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO DUO) and memory size, but also to know it works well with your mobile phone.

This is the reason we setup MobyMemory.com because compatibility between the new era of smart mobile phones and memory cards is not something that can be relied upon.

We don't bad-mouth or discuss other manufacturers' memory on this site, because different manufacturers are continually working to improve their product base and reliability.. so that wouldn't be a fair business practice. For this reason we will not post up a list of compatible memory cards for each of the mobile phones.

At MobyMemory, we focus on our own game, which is to take the hard work out of the buying process for our customers, and offer them all the knowledge they need to make an informed choice.

We work with different manufacturers to find the most compatible memory we can (for mobile phone use) at each of the available memory sizes. we do so by testing sample sets of each of the cards with our test lab of mobile phones, and if necessary, work with the manufacturer to improve the quality of product, and sometimes introducing new capacity cards early into the European market. Because we order in quantity, we can pass on these savings to our customers.

We follow this up through after-sales support and offering information and guides to help customers get the most out of the memory for their mobiles (within these forums).

Thankfully, this strategy is working well for us so we don't plan on changing it anytime soon !

Please feel free to use this forum and our HOWTO guides and reviews to help you learn more about your mobile and memory card usage. And if you choose to do business with us, all the better

Yours sincerely,

Price cuts on biggest MobyMemory MMC Cards!

MMC Price List:

512mb MMC - £64

1Gb MMC - £140 !

All prices inclusive of VAT.

The "sweet-spot" in pricing is rapidly moving up to 512mb and beyond for our MMC card range.

We support our full range of MMC and RS-MMC in use with compatible Nokia, Siemens, motorola, O2 and Orange mobiles.

If you have a question relating to how to get the most of your MobyMemory card, don't hesitate to ask us.

Yours sincerely,

Review of our 256mb MobyMemory MMC Card..

The guys at Siemens-Java have kindly conducted a review of our 256mb MMC memory card.

We did pretty well overall:

http://www.siemens-java.com/review/MMC256MB/

Nice explanation of transfer speeds and what you can fit onto a 256mb too...

lots of music..

sweet.

Latest Price cuts on MobyMemory Cards.

MMC Price List:
128mb MMC - £16

256mb MMC - £34

512mb MMC - £70

1Gb MMC - £150 !

(1Gb MMC has finally reached the £150 price point. The phone will take MMC-based memory expansion cards. New features include push to talk, "always on" email, document and presentation viewer for MS Office docs.

The other phone of interest is a 3G-based smartphone - the Nokia 6630. Again with Symbian Series 60 operating system and menu, this will be the smallest 3G smartphone available. It will use the smaller memory form-factor of RS-MMC. Other features include a megapixel camera, real-time video streaming, and MP3 player.

We look forward at MobyMemory.com to giving these new Nokia mobiles a very thorough testing with our range of memory cards when they arrive in the autum !

W/C Monday 14th June - Latest Prices

128mb MMC - £22

256mb MMC - £42

512mb MMC - £85

1Gb MMC - £210

1st June 2004 - Price cut on 1Gb MMC MobyMemory Card

Due to incresing levels of production, we are now able to offer the 1Gb MobyMemory MMC at the price of

£225 (inclusive of VAT).

1Gb is enough room to fit about 25 hours of music (.MP3 files recorded at 96kbps ABR), or even more in .AAC or .WMA format.

Now you can leave your iPod at home!

More reductions on 1gb and 512mb MMC

Given fairly dramatic changes in benchmark prices in MMC card market, we are dropping prices again this morning:

1gb - £250

512mb - £95

(All prices inclusive of VAT)

We remain committed to offering the best value possible to our customers.

Price cuts across all MMC cards

As prices continue to fall in flash memory, we will continue to pass on the good news to our customers as soon as we are able. However, SD cards are rarely, if ever compatible with MMC slot devices.

Manufacturers like Nokia and Siemens are likely to continue supporting the MMC (and the new RS-MMC standard). This means that for a like-for-like price and card performance, an MMC card you buy today is more likely to be compatible with the phone you buy next month, or next year. (Leaving to one side Sony devices that only support the Memory stick Duo format).

Also, the vast majority of consumers will have no interest in the extra security features integrated into the SD (secure digital) format, which is primarily designed as a way for companies to preserve ownership rights on transfer of copyrighted material onto cards.

The new RS-MMC will be compatible with RS-MMC, and MMC and SD (through an interface jacket). The mini-SD standard will be compatible with mini-SD and SD.

NB. The new RS-MMC slot and mini-SD slot devices are never likely to be compatible with each others' card formats, because the mini-SD is squarish, whilst the RS-MMC is longer and narrower. Unfortunately, not every design decision taken over standards is always in the best interest of the consumer!
