NEWS BULLETIN FOR ALL NOKIA N95 OWNERS:

The release of the SanDisk 16GB micro SD memory card is due in the summer 2008 (we hope June, but could be July).

We can confirm from early testing that the Nokia N95 (in all the current firmwares) is compatible with the new capacity 16GB micro SD from SanDisk.. That is great news for the many thousands of Nokia N95 owners out there, and really impressive work from Nokia, who continue to offer excellent firmware support for their devices, and dont leave owners in the lurch after purchase like some other manufacturers we could mention...

We at Moby Memory will be receiving an excellent allocation of the first 16GB micro SD cards to reach the UK from SanDisk... so fingers crossed, we dont have too long to wait. As soon as we have a confirmed delivery date, we will post up a Pre-Order buy link so you can book your order from this first allocation.

hi all i bourght a SanDisk 8GB memory card for my N95 a week or so ago from Mobymemory, All was working fine, now in the last few days my phone says that it is corrupted(i dont think i have done anyting to cause this?), it then goes on to say would i like to format now, i key in yes, then it says the memory card is in use by another application, do you wish i end this application and format now, i key in yes....and nothing happens, When i insert my card into USB Reader & SanDisk MicroMate and connect to my computer, my computer does not detect anything and say insert card in drive??? Is there anything i can do to fix this?thanks all

Finally fixed the crash / reboot on my N95 problem with 6gb and 8gb cards, thought I should share...

Problem with the Nokia N95 and 6gb / 8gb microSD media cards.

It is not possible to use much more than about 4gb of either a 6gb or 8gb card without the phone becoming very unstable, freezing, rebooting.

This was a problem I have had with two 6gb cards and a 8gb in two Nokia N95 phones. Everything was fine until I had used about 4gb of either card and every time I tried to use an application/camera when service was provided by the media card the phone would crash and restart.

This is how I eventually got everything working as it should.

I wasted lots of time backing up and then formatting cards to no avail. As it turned out the problem wasn’t with the cards, it was with my Orange branded phone. The current (22-12-07) latest firmware (V11.0.026) provided by the “Nokia Software Updater” for my Orange N95 phone will only let you use up to 4gb of the media card fitted, maybe all the networks do this.

So the only 100% warranty friendly way to a happy relationship with your Orange branded N95 is to stick to a 4gb card and don’t bother wasting your money on a 6gb or 8gb card until the appropriate firmware update is available.

If like me you just want to get the bloody thing working to it’s full potential and not have it restricted by the operator, then you need the ABSOLUTE latest firmware, which would be the one available for the unbranded phone (V20.0.015).

You need to change the N95 product code so that when the "Nokia Software Updater" reads your phone details to issue the so-called update, it sees an unbranded model not one crippled by your network. I charged mine from 0548170 (Orange) to 0534841 (EURO1 Sand (Unbranded)) and my Nokia N95 was pumped with V20.0.015 and now I can use all of my 8gb card with no problem. In fact my phone feels so much sharper with all the slight improvements to the various applications, starts up quicker too.

Of course if Orange where to play fair and get it own firmware upto date and issued through the "Nokia Software Updater" you wouldn't have to mess about the product code at all.

Standard microSD vs Ultra II

Does anyone know if there are any visible performance differences between microSD cards branded Ultra II and those that aren't?

The prices for Ultra II on average is 75% more than standard Sandisk microSD.

I've just ordered a N95 on http://www.moneysupermarket.com/MobilePhones/default.aspx and wondered if anyone knows whether I'll get a memory card with it and what size? I was going to purchase one on this site but don't want to waste my money if I'm already getting one. BTW It'll be on Virgin, so don't know if that makes any difference.

Hello there,

I had a 2gb micro-sd card that used to work in my Nokia N95.

It worked for a couple of weeks until one unfortunate day where it spazzed out.

I tried formatting it in the phone/other phones/cameras/memory card reader via xp to no avail.

The card reader can view the files. I can actually copy files over to the desktop from the card. But doing any changes to the card is where I'm at a loss.

The annoyance is apparently there's a corruption in E:\Videos. Formatting in XP just leaves me with, 'Windows was unable to complete the format'.

I've bought a replacement 2gb card already, but I would be grateful for some advice, if any, on the formatting problem as perhaps the memory card is salvageable and not needing a one way trip to the bin.

Nokia N95.. when will it arrive

I for one can't wait for the arrival of the Nokia N95.. It will be a nice excuse for some very extensive testing with our microSD cards and accessories...

May have to pull rank on this one and volunteer myself for the tests

How about a city visit to europe to try out the built in GPS.. Nokia are going to be releasing city maps for most of the big cities round the world.
When the GPS hardware is "in the box" and the software too, it looks like the days of 3rd party software solutions for GPS on the Nokia symbian platforms may be limited in the future.

How about taking a few shots while you are away: 5 megapixel photos should be sufficient for all but the keenest photographers i would guess.

How about some homemade movies: VGA Video (MP4) recorded at 30 fps (frames per second) will just have to do..

If Nokia pull this off and deliver on the spec with all the usual Nokia features you take for granted (like battery, signal strength, call quality etc).. then this very hard to beat on smartphones stakes for 1st half of 2007.

Anyone seen one in action yet at the trade shows or in beta release..? Please let us know what you thought first hand.
