HOWTO: Install drivers for Nokia DKU-2 cable connection

Here is a simple guide on how to...install the drivers for the USB data cable that came with your Nokia 6230 (or Nokia 7610..)

First you have to download the latest drivers from Nokia's website here:

http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,48247,00.html

Now we can start installing the drivers. (Make sure the cable is NOT connected before starting the driver install.)

Step 1: Double-click the downloaded file ( Nokia_DKU2_driver_05_02_132_eng.exe

Choose destination location for installing to (leave as default unless prefer to install elsewhere).

Press NEXT to continue..

Step 2:

A warning dialog will now appear talking about the software not being certified for use with Windows XP. Just ignore this Microsoft warning of dire consequences and system instability..(we will have to trust Nokia on this one ) .

It is important to press ' Continue Anyway ' (as we will do every time this appears later in the install).

Step 3:It seems like you finished installation, but not really, press ' Finish '.

Step 4: Now plug your USB cable (DKU-2) into a spare USB port on your PC, and plug the other end into your Nokia mobile. You should see that your PC recognizes your phone, as below.

Step 5:

Now you can continue installing the drivers for your phone. (told you it wasn't over yet!)

Press NEXT to move on to next driver ( leave on the Recommended selection of 'Install the software automatically' )

Just press NEXT to move on again

 and NEXT again

No you have same question as in Step 2, exactly the same response to MS dire warning :

'Continue Anyway'

Continue with NEXT

Just press NEXT one more time to move on to Finish the installation.

It is a bit of a long-running saga, and it ain't over yet!

Now you can start installing the Nokia PC Suite software.

To help with this, check out our next HOWTO:

What does "Double the downloaded file" mean?

* Thanks. Typo fixed: meant to be "double-click" i think. [webmaster]

nofear,

the DKU-2 cable driver software is compatible with the following O/S's:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows ME
  • Windows 98SE
  • The only issue is that the latest versions of the Nokia PC Suite software are only for:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000
  • Nokia provide a Version compatibility table to tell you which version of the PC Suite you can use with your Nokia 6230.

    http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,54698,00.html#model

In the case of the Windows 98SE / ME, it is Nokia PC Suite 5.8.

You can download Version 5.8 of the suite from here:

    http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,6771,54000,00.html

Hope this helps you out and solves the problem.

I had great trouble installing the DKU-2 drivers on my Win98SE computer. All suggestions from Nokia and this forum failed. The computer refused to recognise that the drivers I had were for the phone I connected to it.

THE ANSWER (FOR ME) WAS EVENTUALLY FOUND :-)) on the Dell support website http://support.euro.dell.com.

The solution is in editing the register to remove USB and then let it all install itself again. See Dell knowledge base document HO1017251.

Yippee. Now I can order my 1GB MMC card and reader. I'll no doubt be posting again soon when I discover a whole new set of problems ;-)

Thanks to anyone who read my previous queries, and top marks to the very helpful & patient engineers at CLub Nokia technical support, even if the solution was not in their hands (I have let them know what I found).
